We know major league baseball players will try different things to get a hit, but this may be a first: During an at-bat in today's game, Atlanta Braves center fielder Jose Costanza licks his bat while getting ready for the next pitch.
In the top of the second inning at Citi Field against the New York Mets, Jose Constanza (no relation to George) had a strange at-bat. Not only does Jose Constanza change his batting stance after his running swing misses the first pitch, but licks his bat (apparently to clean it?) after fouling off the second pitch.
In the end, Constanza ended up grounding out to short, so obviously he's got some more work to do.
