A Hooters employee who served as a Philadelphia Phillies ballgirl was nearly run over by New York Yankees infielder Ronnier Mustelier when she tried to duck for cover on a foul popup, instead of getting out of the way, during Tuesday's spring training game in Clearwater, Florida.
The Hooters ballgirl wouldn't get out of her chair, despite the ball coming dangerously close to landing right on her head. Not to mention Mustelier and two other Yankee fielders chasing the ball at full speed while running in her direction, which could have resulted in a dangerous collision.
Fortunately there was no interference and no injuries in this incident, and it is spring training for everyone involved. However, the arrangement that allows Hooters employees to be ballgirls at Phillies spring training games is looking more precarious by the day. Just was over a week ago, another Hooters ballgirl mistakenly scooped up a fair ball and gave it to a fan.
If this arrangement is to continue in the future, the Phillies need to do a better job in making sure the Hooters ballgirls understand the rules.
