Miami Heat superstar LeBron James took the sports world by storm when he wore a black mask to protect his broken nose during Thursday night's game against New York. However, it would appear that LeBron's black mask is being forced into an early retirement at the request of the NBA.
According to ESPN, the NBA contacted the Heat on Friday to request that James wear a clearer version of the mask in future games. James initially contemplated appealing the decision, but has agreed to compromise and find a comfortable mask to wear that is approved by the league, starting with Saturday night's game against Orlando.
According to Bleacher Report's Ethan Skolnick, the NBA's rule about wearing a clear mask is similar to rules currently in place for goggles so that "opponents can see a player's eyes".
Well, it was fun while it lasted. At least LeBron (and the rest of us) got to enjoy the mask for one great night.
