The Syracuse University basketball program committed an inexcusably embarrassing gaffe by presenting one of their all-time greats with a misspelled jersey during a ceremony at halftime of Saturday's game at the Carrier Dome.
Bouie was having his jersey retired along with Louie Orr, as the stars of the "Louie and Bouie Show" each scored more than 1,000 points during their seasons together between 1976 and 1980. However, it would seem that the SU Athletic Department did not conduct their proper due diligence, as they presented Bouie with a jersey featuring the name "Bowie" on the back.
Syracuse deserved to be ripped to total shreds on this one. How on earth does this happen? Of all the ways to screw up a jersey retirement ceremony honoring one of your all-time greats, you spell the name wrong on his jersey? We can't wait to hear the explanation behind this.
H/T NYDN.
