Bob Melvin ejected for justifiably arguing terrible called third strike vs. Nationals (Video)

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin was ejected from Thursday's game in Washington for justifiably arguing a horrendous called third strike by the home plate umpire.

It happened in the top of the first with the bases loaded and one out while the game was still scoreless, but the Giants were looking to blow the game open early. With the count 2-2 to Giants batter Mark Canha, Nationals starter DJ Herz threw a pitch high and outside which appeared to be a clear ball. However, home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater punched out Canha by calling strike three.

Canha calmly pleaded his case to no avail and headed back to the dugout. Melvin began to yell at Scheurwater, telling him to "bear down" and saying the call was "terrible". Melvin either apparently said something else to upset Scheurwater, or Scheurwater was a bit too sensitive in this instance, as he threw Melvin out of the game. Melvin then came out of the dugout to get his money's worth.

Due to the small crowd at the game, hot mics were able to capture a good portion of the conversation between Melvin and Scheurwater, with Melvin telling Scheurwater that it was a "b***s*** call".

We know Melvin does not mind being ejected early, or even before the game starts. In this case, we can't blame Melvin one bit. Bad calls are bad calls, and this call was horrendous. If this was only the first inning, imagine how the rest of the game was going to go.

The Giants only managed to score one run in the inning on a walk (as Herz was clearly having clear control issues). However, they managed to take control late as they beat the Nationals 9-5 in 10 innings. The Giants are now 10-3 in their last 13 games to go one game above .500, and they are only 3 games back in the wild card race.
