According to Curt Menefee of Fox Sports, coming back from a commercial break during the Dallas Cowboys - New York Giants game in the third quarter, "The electrical issues continue at the New Meadowlands. Smoke is coming out of a transformer, and so the entire stadium has gone dark." The game was delayed for about 15 minutes, during which the New York FOX affiliate showed coverage of the St. Louis Rams - San Fransisco 49ers game. The power is now back on and the game has resumed, although the Giants probably would just rather call it a night, as they are behind 26-6 to the Cowboys.
This is the first year of play in the New Meadowlands Stadium. It cost about $1.6 billion dollars to build. How does this kind of thing happen in this day and age? I can't wait to hear the full story on this, as it is clearly something that should never happen at any stadium, let alone a stadium that is less than a year old. Obviously the backup power source failed as well (at least for a little while), so we'll see what comes from this.
