With some of the recent fan behavior in the stands at baseball games that we've highlighted on this site, it's nice to show something positive for a change. On Friday night, a fan in the front row leaped in front of a woman seated next to him to protect her from a flying baseball bat, getting a cut on his face in the process.
It happened on Friday night at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the San Francisco Giants were visiting the hometown Cincinnati Reds. In the top of the 12th inning, San Francisco's Cody Ross took a swing at a pitch and lost the grip on his bat, which went flying into the stands. A man in the front row stepped in front of the woman seated next to him to protect her from getting hit with the bat. As he caught the bat, the narrow end of the bat hit him in the face and gave him a cut on his cheek.
Aside from the cut, he appeared to be OK. The hometown Reds were able to score in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game 1-0. Kudos to this fan for taking one for a fellow fan.
