Links to a few strange plays around baseball from yesterday:
- A black cat ran onto the field at the Mets-Marlins game in the top of the eighth inning. Where exactly did the cat come from?
- In Anaheim, Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki made a nice leaping grab in front of the outfield wall to rob Vernon Wells (LAA) of an extra-base hit. A "fake Ichiro" fan in stands, who dresses in full Mariners uniform and actually looks a little like Ichiro, was more than happy to take credit for the catch.
- In San Diego, Padres catcher Nick Hundley failed to catch a foul ball near the stands on the left side of home plate in the top of the first inning against the San Francisco Giants. To top it off, Hundley tumbled backwards into the camera well on the play. Fortunately he was OK.
- At Oakland, a pitch by Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy in the bottom of the second inning hit the home plate umpire in the arm after catcher Salvador Perez didn't get his glove on the ball. After getting checked on by A's trainers, the umpire stayed in the game.
