Various major league teams have held Star Wars festivities this month, such as the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. Last night at Minute Maid Park, it was the Houston Astros' turn to host Star Wars Night to celebrate the recent release of the complete Star Wars movie collection on Blu-Ray, and to raise some money for the "Stand Up to Cancer" charity.
In Houston, one lucky fan in attendance would win a copy of "Star Wars: The Complete Saga" on Blu-Ray. Young fans had chances to win Star Wars PEZ candy dispensers and the LEGO Star Wars character encyclopedia.
As part of last night's festivities, Star Wars characters appeared in costume, both on the field and in the stands. One member of the FOX broadcast team covering the game spent a few minutes interviewing some people dressed as Stormtroopers and Darth Vader, who managed to use the "strangle move" on him.
The Houston Astros donated proceeds from some of the ticket packages sold to Stand Up to Cancer, "a movement created to raise funds to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives". Raising money for charity is always a positive thing.
The Astros must have had "The Force" working for them last night. Despite having lost 104 games this year, the Astros beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 in 10 innings to keep the Cards one game out of the wild card position for the plaoyffs.
