Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Joel Peralta has been known for occasionally "speeding up" on batters by throwing a pitch before the batter are ready. He pulled the trick again last night, and caught one of the Texas Rangers off guard for a called third strike.
It happened in the top of the eighth inning at Tropicana Field today against the visiting Texas Rangers. With an 0-2 count, David Murphy was caught "napping", as he was still getting his bat ready when Peralta threw a pitch right down the middle of the plate. The umpire called strike three and Murphy was none too happy, but given the fact that Peralta has a reputation for doing this, Murphy should have been ready for it.
