Last night the Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1 to win the American League Central Division title. It was Detroit's first division championship since 1987.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland was particularly emotional after his team clinched the title. However, Leyland's tears of joy could have also been expressing his relief in being able to wear a clean pair of underwear.
This past Thursday, the Tigers had a 12-game winning streak going. At some point during the streak, Leyland decided to see how superstitions would come into play in order to keep the streak going, so Leyland decided to wear the same underwear each day, without washing them, until the streak came to an end.
That idea was clearly distrubing to some people, including these Fox Sports Detroit reporters, one of whom found it particularly repulsive, given his priceless facial expressions:
Fortunately for those associated with the team, the Tigers' winning streak was broken on Thursday as they lost to Oakland 6-1. This definitely made Friday night's celebration that much less awkward.
