Last week in Texas high school football, the Mission Sharyland Rattlers kicked a last second field goal to defeat the Donna Rattlers 17-15. However, during the celebration on the field, a Mission Sharyland assistant coach stepped over the line by making some rude gestures toward the Donna sideline.
High school football coach gets suspended for taunting opposing team after victory [Off the Bench]
The video here shows the game-winning field goal and the celebration that followed. In the left side of the screen, you will see Mission Sharyland linebacker coach Felipe Barerra making the "crotch chopping" taunt toward the Donna sideline. As a result, Mission Sharyland officials have suspended Barerra for one week, and there may be more discipline pending a review by district officials.
Kids should know not to make rude gestures towards their opponents, let alone the coaches. It doesn't matter if it's the game winning field goal or the first play of the game - you just don't do that. It's called sportsmanship. Barerra needs to set a better example for the kids and deserves the punishment in this case. Hopefully Barerra will learn from this incident and be a better coach going forward.
