Boston Bruins left winger Daniel Paille took a puck to the face off a slapshot by New York Islanders defenseman Steve Staios in the third period of last night's NHL game in Long Island.
Paille was playing defense by lining himself up between Staios and the Bruins goal when Staios took the shot. The game was stopped immediately as players on both teams were concerned for Paille's well being. paille skated off the ice under his own power.
Note that Paille does wears a visor, but based on the amount of blood, the puck opened up what would seem to be a nasty gash.
