Early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs scored a field goal to cut the Jets lead to 35-10. The Chiefs decided to attempt an onside kick. Unfortunately, the onside kick attempt by Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop may have been one of the worst in NFL history.
Succop nearly tripped over the football when he tried to kick it, which may explain why the ball only traveled three yards. Since the rules state that the ball has to travel at least 10 yards, the Chiefs were called for a penalty and the ball was awarded to the Jets on the Chiefs 38-yard line.
On Monday, the Chiefs fired their head coach Todd Haley. Some sources say that this move has been contemplated for a while by the Chiefs front office, but you have to wonder if this sorry excuse for an onside kick attempt served as the final nail in Todd Haley's coffin.
