Buffalo Sabres forward Matt Ellis and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon got into a fight during the second period of last night's NHL game in Buffalo.
It happened after Bourdon checked Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe into the boards from behind near center ice. Ellis went after Bourdon to back up his teammate.
Afterwards, Gerbe headed to the locker room and did not return due to what was reported as an "upper body injury".
Bourdon received two penalty minutes for boarding plus a five minute major penalty for fighting. He could also be looking at additional punishment for his boarding of Gerbe once the play is reviewed by the NHL.
Ellis received a 5 minute major for fighting, a 2 minute minor for instigating, and a 10 minute misconduct for instigating.
