New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas scored a 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter on Monday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. To celebrate, he put a bow on the football (which he had in his uniform, so he clearly had prepared this beforehand) and gave it to his mom as a belated Christmas gift.
Although it was a nice (and creative) gesture on Thomas' part, using the football as a prop in a demonstration is deemed unsportsmanlike conduct, and the referees flagged him with a 15-yard penalty.
Fortunately, the penalty was overshadowed by the Saints win, which clinched the NFC South division title, and Drew Brees breaking Dan Marino's single season passing yardage record.
