San Jose Sharks right winger Martin Havlat suffered a freak injury during a line change in last night's NHL game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Havlat was entering the game for Sharks captain Joe Thornton during a line change in the third period. However, Havlat's right leg got caught on the top of the bench wall, throwing him off balance, and his left leg twisted as it hit the ice. After going down, Havlat was unable to put any weight on his left knee and he had to immediately return to the Sharks bench.
Havlat did score a goal in the first period of the game to help the Sharks beat the Oilers 3-2. Unfortunately, it may be a while before Havlat is able to make any further contributions in a game.
