Los Angeles Clippers forward Caron Butler was hit directly in the groin with the basketball as Portland Trail Blazers forward Gerald Wallace was trying to save it from going out of bounds.
It happened in the first quarter of Sunday night's game in the Staples Center. Wallace did not intentionally aim for Butler's groin. However, Wallace's save attempt was successful, as the ball bounced off Butler's groin out of bounds, so Portland got to keep possession of the ball. One of the television announcers got particular enjoyment by imitating what Butler's voice may have sounded like immediately after getting hit.
Butler was not seriously hurt and was able to stay in the game, playing 42 minutes and scoring 19 points as the Clippers won the game 93-88.
