Season 11 of FOX's "American Idol" made its debut Wednesday night, and the first round of contestants got their invitations to Hollywood. One of those contestants getting through to the next round was 15-year-old Shannon Magrane, whose father was former major league pitcher Joe Magrane. Magrane pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1987 World Series.
Shannon is 6 feet tall and is also an athlete: her sport is volleyball.
Shannon brought her family into the audition room, including her father Joe, and performed in front of them. Before she sang, Joe shook hands with judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Things got awkward for a second when Joe asked Tyler how things were in Beantown, as Tyler is from Boston. Tyler responded "Hot, humid and happening...just like your daughter."
