Defenseman Scott Fletcher of the ECHL's Florida Everblades had what would seem to be the biggest hockey hit of the year on Chicago Express forward Mike Embach.
Embach was skating towards the Express blue line with the puck and trying to get around one Everblades defenseman on the right side, while Fletcher had a bead on Embach skating from the left side. Embach didn't see Fletcher until it was too late.
Fletcher lowered the boom on Embach with a huge hit, sending him up in the air as his helmet flew off. There was no penalty since the hit was clean, although there was a skirmish afterwards as Express players went after Fletcher. Fortunately, Embach got up afterwards, although he was a little bit bloody after being hit and landing with his head on the ice.
