Whitney Houston, singer of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV, dies at age 48 (Video)

On Saturday, the sad news broke that singer/actress Whitney Houston was found dead at age 48.

In January 1991, Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem before Super Bowl XXV. It was earlier that month that the Persian Gulf War started, so during that particular year, "The Star-Spangled Banner" had additional meaning due to the men and women who were overseas fighting for our country.

Here is the video of that performance:

Whitney Houston's rendition of the National Anthem is considered one of the greatest versions of the song ever sang, certainly at the Super Bowl. It received such an overwhelming response that it was released as a commercial song and video, and has been the standard for all public performances of the National Anthem ever since.
