During pregame warmups before Friday night's NHL game in Vancouver, Dallas Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen accidentally hit a Stars fan in the face with a flying puck, setting off a hilarious chain of events to follow.
The video of the incident starts off by showing a male and female Stars fan in the front row. Note the female fan is obviously a big Lehtonen fan as she holds a sign saying "Kari 4 Vezina #1", because this will become an important detail in a moment.
From the video, you can see Lehtonen during pregame warmups whipping the puck around. We don't see the male fan being hit by the puck, but we do see him holding his nose after being hurt. How ironic that Lehtonen manages to hit a Stars fan in the face while on the road in Vancouver?
Lehtonen acknowledges the fan by tossing him a towel, which he uses to treat his bloody nose. However, the female Stars fan takes the towel from him, thinking it was intended for her (since she's such a big Lehtonen fan - she had that sign after all). The male fan kindly explains to her "Hey, can't you see I'm bleeding here?" or something to that effect. He has to show her the puck that hit him in the face as proof, as she doesn't seem to believe his story when she gives the towel back.
The male fan got to keep the towel and was given a goalie stick for his troubles, but he had to get some stitches from some on-site medical staffers.
However, in another ironic twist and an unintentionally hilarious ending to the chain of events, the Canucks scoreboard picks that moment as the whole incident has finished playing out to display the public service message: "Watch out for flying pucks!" At that moment the Stars fan was probably thinking to himself "Yeah, thanks for the tip, but it's a little late."
To top it all off, the Stars fan had to watch his team lose to the Canucks 5-2. But at least he got to take home the stick and the bloody towel. And the stitches.
