In Thursday night NHL action from Long Island, NHL referee Stephane Auger took an accidental stick in the face from New York Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald.
It happened in the third period as MacDonald checked Philadelphia Flyers center Zac Rinaldo into the boards behind the Islanders net. MacDonald spun to chase the puck and his stick went flying into the air, catching Auger in the face.
Auger had to leave the game and be replaced by Kevin Pollock.
