Boston Bruins get five extra seconds to score tying goal (Video)

The final faceoff of Thursday night's NHL playoff game between the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals took place with 9.5 seconds left on the clock in the Capitals end of the ice. However, the final sequence of the game took 14.8 seconds to play out before the buzzer sounded, as the clock did not start until 5 seconds after the puck dropped.

The Capitals were able to stave off the late flurry of shots by the Bruins to win the game 2-1 and tie the series at two games apiece. However, the clock malfunction could have led to an unbelievable controversy if the Bruins had scored with less than 5.3 seconds left, as it would have been disallowed. That would have been a nightmare for the NHL to deal with.
