During the second half of Sunday's scoreless draw between Real Madrid and Valencia, Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo failed to draw a penalty after taking a dive in the box when he was barely touched by Valencia’s Victor Ruiz.
Ronaldo was ahead of all the Valencia defenders, with Ruiz being the closest one behind him. Ruiz's foot may have barely grazed Ronaldo's foot, but hardly slowed him down. However, rather than taking the wide open shot on the Valencia goalkeeper, he chose to dive and trick the referee into calling a penalty shot. Fortunately, the referee didn't fall for it.
Interestingly enough, the commentator had this to say: “Had it been Lionel Messi, and had he been fouled, he still would have stayed on his feet. He wouldn’t have been looking for a penalty kick - he'd have been looking to score a goal.”
This game also featured Pepe kicking his own teammate Alvaro Arbeola after failing to draw a penalty after being taken down by Valencia's Pablo Piatti.
