On Thursday night, Minnesota Twins outfielder Denard Span broke his bat in the middle of his first inning at-bat against the New York Yankees...by tapping home plate.
The count was 2-1 to Span when he got back into the batter's box and tapped home plate with the bat. Surprisingly, the bat cracked and nearly broke in two, and the umpire had to call time as Span went to get a new bat while wondering how he managed to break the old one.
Not sure if this was a reflection of an extremely weak wooden bat or whether Span has some super strength that no one knew about, but a strange sight nonetheless.
