In a recent soccer match from Ireland, Shelbourne midfielder Stephen Hurley scored one of the strangest own goals you will ever see.
Hurley was getting some pressure from opposing Shamrock Rovers players in his own half of the field, so he decided to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper. Unfortunately, Shelbourne goalkeeper Paul Skinner was nowhere to be found, as he had completely left the goal box for no apparent reason. As a result, the ball rolled right into the net.
Paul Skinner is the substitute Shelbourne goalkeeper, and after this play, we have a pretty good idea why he's not playing goalie for Shelbourne on a more regular basis.
H/T 101 Great Goals.
