New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera tore his ACL while attempting after suffering a freak injury before Thursday's game at Kaufmann Stadium against the Kansas City Royals. Rivera was catching fly balls in the outfield during Yankees batting practice, which is something he has done for years, when he stepped awkwardly on the warning track while chasing a ball hit by Jason Nix.
Rivera was carted off the field and initially diagnosed with a twisted right knee, but an MRI confirmed a torn ACL. With Rivera being 42 years old, and an ACL injury that normally takes months to recover from, you have to wonder whether this is the way that Rivera's career will end.
