Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland provided some amusement for fans during Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals by using hand signals to call for Brad Eldred, "the tall, big guy" to be a pinch runner.
It happened in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tigers DH Andy Dirks aggravated a hamstring while running for a double. After Leyland and a trainer came out to second base to check out Dirks, they decided to take him out of the game. To signal from second base for the dugout to send out Brad Eldred, Leyland used hand signals by putting his arm up high to signal "tall", then put both arms out wide to signal "big". Since Brad Eldred stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 270 pounds, the coaches were able to translate Leyland's charades and send Eldred out as the pinch runner.

Eldred came around to score on a single by Jhonny Peralta, so he did his job as a pinch runner and filled in as DH for the rest of the game.
