Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine was ejected in Friday night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies by first base umpire Gary Darling after arguing a close play at first base in the top of the ninth inning. The argument ended awkwardly, however, as the gum that Darling was chewing came out of his mouth while he was cursing at Valentine and landed on Valentine's chest.
Darling clearly did not mean to lose his gum on Valentine, but it did end the argument quickly.
