After Abby Wambach scored the first U.S. goal for the women's soccer team in their Olympic soccer match Friday against New Zealand, several players celebrated by doing cartwheels.
Wambach, Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Cheney all took part in the celebration, which may have been a bit excessive. Aside from the poor form of the cartwheels, this could have been construed as taunting by their New Zealand opponents. Firing up your opponent is not a good strategy, especially when you only have a 1-0 lead and more than a half left to play in the game.
The U.S. women won the match 2-0, so it didn't hurt them this time, but this is the Olympics, and they should be holding themselves to higher standards.
