Detroit Tigers left fielder Delmon Young may have made one of the worst outfield throws in major league baseball history during Game 1 of the 2012 World Series Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants.
In the fourth inning, Giants pitcher Barry Zito singled to left field, which drove in Brandon Belt from second base. A good throw would not have made a difference in the ball game, as Belt would have scored anyway, and Zito would not have tried to extend his hit into a double. However, Young's throw was a disaster, as not only did it hit the ground before reaching the infield, but it bounced over the bag at third base.
Young was forced to play left field in order to stay in the lineup while the Tigers are on the road playing under National League rules. We'll see what Jim Leyland does with Young for Game 2.
