Boston Celtics legend and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell attended President Barack Obama's inauguration Monday, and Russell was captured in the crowd by ABC during live coverage of the ceremonies. Unfortunately, Russell was misidentified by ABC News political analyst George Stephanopoulus, who thought he was actor Morgan Freeman.
Stephanopoulus did quickly correct himself, but not before his goof was witnessed by live television viewers. To his defense, Stephanopoulus does not pretend to be a sports expert, unlike Boston mayor Tom Menino.
