Referee Mariano Gonzalez was hit in the chest with a rock thrown from the stands during a second division soccer match from Argentina between Boca Unidos and Gimnasia La Plata that took place Monday.
It happened in the second half after Gonzalez sent off Boca Unidos’ Matias Moises, apparently upsetting someone in the home crowd. Gonzalez stopped in his tracks after being hit and went down to the ground.
Fortunately, Gonzalez was able to get up and able to finish the match, which Gimnasia La Plata won 1-0. We can only hope that the person who threw the rock was apprehended and punished appropriately.
