Royals ball boy interferes with Rajai Davis on foul popup (Video)

Royals ball boy interferes with Rajai Davis on foul popupA Kansas City Royals ball boy interfered with Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Rajai Davis on a foul popup during Friday night's MLB game at Kauffman Stadium. As a result, not only did Davis not make the catch, but the ball boy narrowly avoided getting hurt in what could have been an ugly collision.

It happened in the bottom of the seventh inning as Royals batter Alcides Escobar hit a popup into foul territory in right field. Although the ball was 10 feet away from the stands, the ball boy instinctively got up from his stool and camped under the ball to catch it, forgetting that the ball was live. Making matters worse, Davis was running full speed from his right field position to catch it, and probably didn't call out for it because he didn't think he had to. In the end, neither one of them caught the ball, although Davis probably could have caught it if not for the interference.

Fortunately, neither Davis nor the ball boy was hurt on the play and, more importantly, the play had no impact on the game. Escobar grounded out to the pitcher to finish his at-bat and end the inning, and the Blue Jays won the game 8-4.

A Hooters ball girl found herself in a similar situation last month, but all was forgiven because it was a spring training game.  Because this happened during a live major league game, we'll see if this Royals ball boy is given a chance to redeem himself.
