Washington Capitals defenseman Steven Oleksy took a puck to the face when he went down on a knee to block a shot by New York Rangers center Derick Brassard during Thursday night's Game 1 of their NHL Eastern Conference playoff series at the Verizon Center.
Oleksy does not wear a mask, so he took the shot directly on the side of his face near the cheek and jaw. Fortunately, however, Oleksy did not appear to be seriously hurt.
Oleksy played nearly 14 minutes in the game and had an assist in the Capitals' 3-1 victory over the Rangers.
