The ceremonial first pitch before Tuesday night's New York Mets game at Citi Field shattered a pane of glass in front of a camera behind home plate.
The pitch was thrown by Gary Green, owner of the Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) and a lifelong Mets fan. Green threw it so far over Mets catcher John Buck's head that he didn't even put a hand up to try to catch it. The ball took a bounce a few feet in front of the backstop and shattered the glass.
We've seen bad ceremonial first pitches before, but this would be the first time that we've seen one cause some collateral damage.
