Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Heath Bell is not accustomed to fielding bunts. This became painfully obvious after his attempt to field a bunt by San Diego Padres batter Will Venable during the ninth inning of Friday night's game, as Bell's dive was terribly late and really ugly.
Venable's bunt was placed perfectly between the pitcher's mound and the first base line, and even if Bell's dive was successful, it's unlikely he would have recovered in time to make a throw to first. Fortunately, Bell did recover in time to finish off the inning and get the save in the 5-2 D-backs victory.
