Mets owner Jeff Wilpon has already given up on the season

New York Mets owner Jeff Wilpon appeared at Citi Field on Tuesday night for a pregame ceremony to honor New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, who would be throwing the ceremonial first pitch before his final game at Citi Field. However, Wilpon ended up overshadowing what should have been a nice moment with a comment implying that he has essentially thrown in the towel on the Mets season, even though it is only late May.
“Wish we could see you in the World Series,” Jeff Wilpon told Rivera. “But I’m not sure that’s going to happen.”
You know it was a bad thing for Wilpon to say when Rivera, who is accustomed to making saves, stepped up and tried to make another one on Wilpon's behalf:
“You never know,” Rivera said.
It's not like Mets fans weren't already aware that the team was unlikely to make a miracle run to the World Series, but you can't have the team owner saying it in public. That's so Mets.
