A Tampa Bay Rays fan was hit in the face with a home run ball during Wednesday night's game at Tropicana Field.
It happened in the eighth inning as Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks hit the home run to right field. A fan in the front row tried to catch it with his bare hands, but the ball bounced off his hands and directly into the face of a man three rows behind him.
The Rays fan appeared to be OK, aside from a little swelling of his right cheek just below the eye. However, the play perfectly summed up the night for the Rays, who took a 9-2 beating at the hands of the Red Sox.
