A Tampa Bay Rays fan was hit in the face with a home run ball during Wednesday night's game at Tropicana Field.It happened in the eighth inning as Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks hit the home run to right field. A fan in the front row tried to catch it with his bare hands, but the ball bounced off his hands and directly into the face of a man three rows behind him.
The Rays fan appeared to be OK, aside from a little swelling of his right cheek just below the eye. However, the play perfectly summed up the night for the Rays, who took a 9-2 beating at the hands of the Red Sox.
