A U.S. Army soldier proposed to his girlfriend during a live television interview during Sunday's Atlanta Braves game at Turner Field.
Lt. Ariel Castro attended the game with his girlfriend, Cherie Byron, along with fellow soldiers from Fort Benning and the Georgia Army National Guard as part of the 3rd annual Tribute to the Troops, a joint effort arranged by the Braves and FOX Sports South to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. Castro had been on leave for only nine days after spending nine months in Afghanistan before attending Sunday's game, and Castro had been dating Byron for two years.
The couple were being interviewed in the third inning when FOX Sports broadcaster Tom Ryan asked if there was anything Castro could do to make the day at the ballpark extra special. That was the cue for Castro to get down on one knee and give Byron the ring. Byron responded happily by saying yes, and then, being at a loss for words, finished the interview by simply saying "Go Braves!"
