The New York Yankees drafted Ian Clarkin, a left-handed pitcher from San Diego, CA, with their first pick in the 2013 MLB draft. Clarkin was very excited, but might also have been feeling a bit sheepish after stating before the draft that he "cannot stand the Yankees".
Clarkin grew up idolizing Arizona Diamondbacks star Luis Gonzalez, so when Gonzalez got the game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, Clarkin said "I cannot stand the Yankees, so I was in tears 'cause I was so happy."
We're sure the Yankees will be able to forgive Clarkin, especially if he turns out to be the pitcher that they obviously hope he can be. At the same time, Clarkin should be able to find a way to change his feelings for the Yankees now that they are helping make his professional baseball dreams come true.
