Baseball tears through backstop netting at Nationals game, hits fan

A female fan in the front row behind home plate at Saturday's Washington Nationals game was hit in the shoulder by a baseball that somehow tore its way through the backstop netting.

It happened in the top of the ninth inning as Los Angeles Dodgers batter Jerry Hairston Jr. fouled a pitch from Nationals reliever Rafael Soriano straight back of home plate. After hitting the female fan in the shoulder, the baseball bounced off a seat and skimmed the hair on the back of the head of another female fan sitting next to her who was on her cell phone.

Here's a picture from a fan a few rows back of home plate showing the hole that the baseball created. The Nationals better have that netting fixed quickly, as they have another game with the Dodgers scheduled for 1:35PM Sunday.
