San Diego Padres batter Chase Headley was hit by a pitch after calling for time during the first inning of Wednesday night's game against the Boston Red Sox.
Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester was beginning his delivery of the 0-1 pitch when Headley asked for time and was permitted time by umpire Doug Eddings. However, Lester threw the pitch anyway and hit Headley on the left ankle, making for an unusual moment.
Headley was able to continue his at-bat after taking a minute or so to shake off the pain, and he closed out the at-bat with a single, giving him some measure of revenge. Unfortunately, the Red Sox got the last laugh with a 2-1 walk-off victory over the Padres.
