Minnesota Twins pitcher Samuel Deduno threw a strikeout while chewing on his stars-and-stripes necklace during the seventh inning of Monday night's game in Anaheim.
Deduno had his necklace in his mouth as he threw what announcers described as a "biting" curveball (get it?) for strike three against Los Angeles Angels batter J.B. Shuck. Apparently there's no rule against pitching with a necklace in your mouth, so we'll see if this starts a new trend. Deduno followed up by making a bunch of crazy faces against the next Angels batter, Mike Trout, before getting him to ground to short to end the inning.
Deduno was taken out after the seventh, but pitched well enough to get the win in the 4-3 Twins victory.
