The New York Yankees grounds crew was caught unprepared during Monday night's game as they had trouble rolling out the tarp when a sudden rainstorm hit Yankee Stadium.
It happened in the fourth inning when a sudden downpour forced the umpires to call for a rain delay. The field was already fairly wet by the time the grounds crew started rolling the tarp over the infield. However, to make matters worse, the tarp got stuck halfway over the infield because there was so much water on top of it. The grounds crew was forced to turn the tarp upside down in the outfield and dump the water, then come back and finally cover up to the infield, receiving a major Bronx cheer from the crowd.
We can only imagine how the late George Steinbrenner would have reacted if something like this happened at the Stadium on his watch. Something tells us the grounds crew will have some explaining to do.
The game was delayed for 59 minutes, but did eventually resume, with the Kansas City Royals defeating the Yankees 5-1.
