NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock made an embarrassing blunder when he somehow mistakenly referred to New England Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow as Peyton Manning during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's NFL preseason game in Foxboro.
It happened after Tebow underthrew a pass which was intercepted by the New York Giants. Mayock summed up the play as "a very bad throw by Peyton Manning right there".
Memo to Mike Mayock: Tim Tebow is not Peyton Manning. Wrong player and wrong team, not to mention the difference in their levels of talent at the QB position. However, as it's obviously preseason for NFL analysts, too, we'll give Mayock a pass on this one. It's unlikely that Mayock or anyone else would make the same mistake during the regular season, considering that Tebow will be fortunate to even be on the Patriots opening day roster.
UPDATE: As of Saturday morning, Tebow has been released by the Patriots.
