Seattle Mariners left fielder Raul Ibanez accidentally spiked the baseball into the ground while attempting to make a cutoff throw from the outfield during Tuesday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
It happened in the top of the seventh inning with Blue Jays runner Jose Bautista on first base. Edwin Encarnacion hit a double to left field, knocking Bautista over to third. However, after Ibanez threw the cutoff throw to second base straight into the ground, Bautista was able to score easily on the throwing error. Ibanez couldn't have spiked the ball any better if he scored a touchdown.
The play perfectly encapsulated the Mariners fielding issues during the game, as they committed four fielding errors in the 7-2 loss to the Blue Jays.
