Danny Trevathan celebrates TD too soon, drops ball before reaching end zone (Video)

Denver Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan cost his team a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's NFL season opener against the Baltimore Ravens with an embarrassing blunder as he started celebrating before he actually reached the end zone.

Trevathan intercepted a pass from quarterback Joe Flacco that was intended for Ray Rice on the Baltimore 30-yard line and had no one between him and the end zone. It was an easy pick-six provided that he hold onto the ball as he crossed the goal line. Unfortunately, Trevathan was thinking more about celebrating the touchdown than making sure that he crossed the goal line. As a result, Trevathan dropped the ball on the 1-yard line, and the ball went through the end zone for a touchback.

Fortunately, the Broncos didn't need the touchdown, as Peyton Manning threw seven of them to lead the Broncos to a 49-27 win over the Ravens. However, Trevathan's play will probably be remembered as one of the biggest bonehead plays of the year when all is said and done.

H/T Shutdown Corner.
