St. Louis Cardinals right fielder Carlos Beltran had to leave Wednesday night's Game 1 of the World Series when he injured himself crashing into the outfield wall while stealing a grand slam from Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.
The Red Sox had bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning with one out as Ortiz hit the ball to deep right field towards the Red Sox bullpen. Beltran made a nonchalant catch despite the collision, and one run scored on the play as David Ross tagged from third base on the sac fly.
Beltran felt soreness in his right side, but finished the inning before being taken to a hospital to be checked out. Beltran was diagnosed with a rib contusion, but X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day.
